John Locke


National Walk 2 Vote, Project Solon

John Brian Locke IV is the founder of the National Walk 2 Vote initiative and Project Solon, and a previous student body president of the University of Houston-Downtown for two consecutive terms. He has received recognition from Houston’s City Council members, the Mayor of Houston, and Congress for his work in the community including civic engagement, volunteerism and empowerment. He also has been recognized with the Student of the Year Award at the Circle of Change Leadership Conference in Los Angeles.

John received an honorary degree from the International Education Parliament in 2016 for his commitment to improving higher education and his presentation on higher education best practices. He has also given presentations and speeches at notable conferences such as NAPA, Points of Light’s Conference on Volunteering and Service, NCLC, and published an article in the AACU’s Diversity & Democracy called, “The Power to Influence Positive Change: A Student’s Perspective.”
