Mike Ellison

Actor, Recording Artist

Mike Ellison was born in Ethiopia, raised in Reston, Virginia and fully realized himself as an actor, recording and performing artist in Detroit. The multi-faceted entertainer has released independent albums, headlined national concert and community outreach tours, and registered acting credits that span film, theater and television. Mike is currently the featured artist for MQA’s global launch campaign “Take Me There.” MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) is an award-winning technology that delivers master quality audio in a file that’s small enough to stream.

With a communications degree from the University of Virginia, Mike began his post-graduate career in the field professional sports, working for the U.S. Tennis Association and U.S. Open. He later provided marketing and event management services for a Detroit-based firm, which represented an array of professional athletes.

A service ambassador for Points of Light, Mike has employed entertainment as a vehicle to promote charitable initiatives throughout the United States and his birth country, including orphan support programs and the construction of several healthcare clinics. Stateside, he’s partnered with major and grassroots nonprofit organizations, as well as notable corporate sponsors to promote cancer awareness, teach African-American history, combat bullying and teen suicide, and address myriad social issues.

Mike’s father, the late journalist Bob Ellison, was the first African-American president of the White House Correspondents’ Association.

What Others Are Saying

This is one of the few events where all members of the social good sector are in attendance. With business, nonprofit and public sectors attending, we can dig deeper and have cross-sector conversations.

— 2018 Atlanta Attendee

The conference proved to be one of the most engaging and exciting professional gatherings of like-minded people I've ever attended. Although the topics, content, and presentations all appropriately centered around volunteering and service in some way, the sheer range of them was simply astounding.
