Books and Brew is a book club type session providing participants with an opportunity to have intimate conversations and discussions with featured authors on new and relevant books for civic engagement practitioners.

Dalya Massachi specializes in helping community-minded professionals advance their work through outstanding written materials bith online and offline. Massachi has worked with nonprofits for 20 years as a trainer, writing coach, grant writer, executive director, journalist, editor and organizer. Her award-winning book is entitled "Writing to Make a Difference: 25 Powerful Techniques to Boost Your Community Impact."

Everyone Leads: Building Leadership from the Community Up

Paul Schmitz founded Public Allies Milwaukee in 1993, and has served as the national CEO of Public Allies since 2000. Public Allies' mission is to advance new leadership to strengthen communities, nonprofits, and civic participation. Since 1992, Public Allies has supported more than 2,800 diverse young leaders in 18 communities across the country to turn their passion to make a difference into a career in community and public service, and promoted leadership approaches that engage the next generation and diverse communities.

Laura Ling's "Somewhere Inside" (2985)

Laura Ling is the host and reporter on "E! Investigates," a documentary series on the E! Network, which explores topics such as teen suicide and the challenges faced by military spouses. Prior to joining the E! Network, Ling served as Vice President of Current TV's journalism department and worked as a correspondent reporting on crucial issues from around the world. In March 2009, while reporting on the trafficking of North Korean women, Ling and her colleague Euna Lee were arrested and held captive in North Korea for 140 days before being granted a special pardon and returning to the United States. She has since sought to shine a light on the issue of trafficked women as well as to bring greater attention to the plight of other imprisoned journalists around the world.
